Privacy Policy

Last updated October 10, 2026

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Gleamry (“we,” “us”) handles information when you use the Gleamry iOS app and this website (the “Service”).

Gleamry is local-first. Your books, reading sessions, goals, notes, and shelf live on your iPhone — not on Gleamry servers. We do not create a Gleamry account, and we do not collect your library. If you use iCloud, Apple can keep a copy in your own iCloud account so it survives reinstalling the app or changing phones; we cannot see or access that copy. This policy focuses on the limited cases where data does leave your device or reach us.

2. What stays on your device

Your library and reading history are stored locally with Apple technologies (such as SwiftData and the App Group container). That includes titles, covers you add, progress, sessions, notes, lists, shelf layout, goals, and reminder preferences.

Files you import (for example a Goodreads CSV) and photos you attach as covers are processed on your device. Optional app-blocking selections, when that feature is available, also stay on the device as opaque tokens. None of this is uploaded to a Gleamry backend.

2a. iCloud sync and your own backups

iCloud. When you are signed in to iCloud and iCloud is available for Gleamry, the app stores a copy of your library (books, covers you add, reading sessions, lists, shelf layout) and a small set of settings (such as your goals) in your private iCloud database, using Apple’s CloudKit and iCloud key-value storage. This data belongs to your Apple ID. It is encrypted and handled by Apple under Apple’s terms and privacy policy, and it is not accessible to Gleamry or sent to our servers. Its purpose is to restore your library after you reinstall the app and to keep your devices in step.

Turning it off or deleting it. You can stop syncing in iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Gleamry. Deleting the app does not delete the iCloud copy; to remove it, go to Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Gleamry and delete the data. iCloud sync is not a guaranteed backup, so we recommend exporting your data from time to time.

Export. In Settings → Your data you can create a JSON backup (your full library, including covers) or a Goodreads-compatible CSV file. The file is created on your device and saved where you choose (for example Files or iCloud Drive). Gleamry does not receive it.

3. Information that may leave your device

Book search and covers. If you search online, scan an ISBN, or download a cover, your device contacts public catalogs directly (such as Google Books, Open Library, or NeoDB). Those providers receive your query or ISBN and ordinary request metadata (for example IP address). Manual entry and offline use do not require this.

Purchases. If you buy or restore a subscription or in-app purchase, Apple processes payment. Apple and RevenueCat receive purchase validation data (product IDs, transaction or receipt identifiers, entitlement status) so premium features can unlock. We do not receive your card number.

This website. Our host (Cloudflare) may process standard request logs such as IP address, browser type, and the page requested. We do not run advertising or analytics SDKs on the site.

Support email. If you contact khelil.fouado@gmail.com, we receive whatever you send in that message.

4. Permissions

Depending on the features you use, iOS may ask for camera (barcode scan), photo library (manual covers), notifications (reminders), or Screen Time / Family Controls (optional goal-linked app blocking). You control these in system settings. Camera frames are processed on device for recognition; we do not upload camera video to Gleamry.

5. How we use limited off-device data

When data does leave your device or reach us, we use it only to:

  • return book metadata and covers you asked for;
  • validate purchases and restore entitlements;
  • host and secure this website;
  • answer support requests;
  • comply with law and enforce our Terms.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use your reading history for advertising — because we do not receive your reading history.

6. Third parties

Catalog lookups, Apple (App Store billing and iCloud), RevenueCat entitlements, and Cloudflare hosting are provided by third parties under their own policies. We only involve them where needed for the features above.

7. Retention and your choices

On-device data lasts until you delete it in the app (where available), delete the app, or erase the device — and may remain in Apple backups you keep. If iCloud sync is on, the copy in your iCloud account remains until you delete it as described in section 2a, and exported files stay wherever you saved them. Support emails are kept only as long as needed to help you. Purchase records follow Apple’s and RevenueCat’s retention rules.

You can use Gleamry offline with manual book entry, revoke permissions in iOS Settings, turn off reminders, and manage subscriptions in your Apple ID settings. For privacy questions about information we actually hold (for example an email you sent), contact khelil.fouado@gmail.com.

8. Children

Gleamry is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has emailed us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Security

We rely on Apple’s on-device security for the app and HTTPS for network requests. No system is perfectly secure; protect your device and Apple ID.

10. Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the product changes. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Questions: khelil.fouado@gmail.com. See also our Terms of Service.
